– New Addition to the Fleet: 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel

Posted: October 26, 2011 in Miscellaneous

As I’m catching up on all the projects we turned in our ’08 Silverado and ’08 WRX for a vehicle that can do what both did.  We picked up a ’07 Jeep Grand Cherokee a couple weeks ago.  It is the common rail diesel model – Mercedes Benz CRD 3.0 turbo.  It has over 350 ft lbs of torque and gets low 20’s mpg combined (where the 5.7 liter Hemi gets similar torque but at much lower mpg ~ 15 or less).  It has the same footprint of the WRX in our garage so it fits easily, and tows more than my 5.3 v8 powered Silverado.  It is also our first diesel so we’ll see how it goes.

I have an appointment to bring it to RennsportKC to have a post purchase inspection done – we did buy the extended warranty so hopefully we’ll be covered for the next 4 years from any mechanical issues.  It is quite nice inside with DVD rear tv which the family loves.  Take the kids to soccer (we have to go to swope park often) and put in a movie they like and it is amazing how quiet the car gets.

One of my first improvements was to add HID headlights to it – give it better visibility and cooler look.
