Just How “Slow” is an FIA GT Car?

Posted: January 14, 2011 in Miscellaneous

Quite slow it seems compared to an F1 car.  This is Spa in Belgium and the famous uphill esses – one of the longest straights in the F1 calendar.  We all think F1 cars like the GT3, Corvette, etc. are fast – but compared to an F1 car just in this 1/2 segment they are 3-4 seconds slower.  It is also amazing to watch the lines the F1 cars take b/c of all the down-force (enough for an F1 car to drive completely upside down at ~ 100 mph)!  This is a neat video of an overlayed camera with qualifying sessions from FIA GT and F1 from 2010.  Same camera, same location – same ratio.
